Wings

'at night we crossed the border following a Black robe
to the edge of the reservation to Cataldo Mission
where the saints and all the martyrs look down on dying converts
what makes the water holy she says is that that it's the closest thing to rain
I stole a mule from Anthony I helped Anne up upon it
and we rode to Coeur d'Alene through Harrison and Wallace
they were blasting out the tunnels making way for the light of learning
when Jesus comes a'calling she said he's coming round the mountain on a train
it's my home last night I dreamt that I grew wings'

23 Jan 2005 The Jan - Feb issue of No Depression page 12 has a review of the Signature Sounds tenth anniversary concert. Below a great picture of Josh in a white cowboy hat "The highlight was a three-song set from rising folk-pop star Josh Ritter (who recently made the jump from Signature to V2). Wearing a huge white cowboy hat, Ritter spun wildly colorful and embellished tales about his first meeting with the label..."

New Single
Man Burning is the new single from Josh. His album 'Hello Starling', is being re-released in the UK by V2 Records on the 22nd January 2005.

V2 Records
V2 Records will release Josh Ritter's critically acclaimed CD Hello Starling-packaged with a special EP featuring previously unreleased live songs from a recent show in Dublin-February 22. Ritter's talent as a prolific songwriter was immediately recognized when he emerged in 2002 with the self released Golden Age of Radio earning him a loyal following with fans and critics alike both at home and abroad. Soon after, Hello Starling was independently released on the small label Signature Sounds catching the attention of V2.

V2 president Andy Gershon has shared his enthusiasm about the signing: "Josh Ritter is an amazing songwriter, performer and individual. His music is the very definition of timelessness. We look forward to a long, flourishing relationship with Josh and his team."

This past spring, Ritter performed to sold-out audiences in the U.K. and appeared at the Cambridge Folk Festival (alongside Gillian Welch) and the V Festival (alongside The Strokes and the Pixies). Most recently, Ritter just completed a fall Canadian tour with Sarah Harmer.

In Ireland, Ritter attracts a large and dedicated following. Recently, he played his biggest gig to date, headlining one night at the Heineken Green Energy Festival at Dublin Castle. Morrissey, The Streets and Iggy Pop headlined other nights of the festival. The Irish Times says "Hello Starling truly is one of the landmark records of this year."

Hello Starling was nominated for the 2004 Shortlist Music Prize by Norah Jones. Ritter's song "Kathleen" won the 2004 Boston Music Award for Song of the Year following up his win in 2003 for Best Male Singer/Songwriter.

Produced by David Odlum (Gemma Hayes, The Frames), Hello Starling was recorded over a two week period at Black Box Studios (an old dairy farm) outside of Angers, France, and contains 11 tracks of original material. Ritter says, "The thick stone walls, high ceilings and old gear (much of it Curtis Mayfield's old equipment) made for a record which I think sounds conversational and honest."

The live EP will also be available as a stand alone item.
